Teotihuacan

Right now I am eating a mystery pastry from the place diagonally across the street. I want to take pictures of all their cakes because they are so pretty, but I am not sure if that is bad form. I should probably ask if it's ok, even though I'm pretty sure people do that kind of thing all the time in order to right reviews.

But I digress.

Yesterday I took a tour to Teotihuacan, which was a Mesoamerican city between 100BC and 600 AD. The tour had a few pick up spots to choose from. I was pretty much equidistant between two and decided to go to the spot in Condessa. I am staying Roma Norte. Roma and Condessa are considered the best neighborhoods to stay in when visiting. You can tell Condessa is upscale immediately. And I passed this park which is the greenest thing I've ever seen:

The ride there was about 1.5 hours with a stop to get snacks. Teotihuacan is massive and you can't take pictures to capture it. Here's a video.

The person you hear talking was our guide Manuel. He was a delight. He did the English tour and Christian did the Spanish tour. He was enthusiastic and very knowledgable and had an adorable vocal quirk of saying "un hmm" between his sentences. He did this with both English and Spanish. He taught us about the architecture of the buildings, the society at the time, and talked about the many indigenous Mesoamerican peoples. The tour was two hours and then we had an hour to walk on our own.

The Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon are the largest structures. We were able to climb part of the Pyramid of the Moon. There were many opportunities to walk up and down those steep and narrow steps, but the Pyramid of the Moon is so steep they have a rubber railing to hold onto. My ego wanted me to get down without using it, but I'm afraid of heights and I didn't need to be a hero.

We met on the bus. I had lunch.

Meeting up with my trainer did not work out, so I went to some markets and then to dinner at the pizza place I went to a few days ago.

For the first time, I was not able to finish my meal. Why? Because when they make a tomato salad in Mexico City, they do mean ALL the tomatoes. This was actually burrata with tomatoes, but check out the size of this thing:

Right now a slice of my prosciutto and arugula pizza is in the mini fridge in this very appropriately sized box.
Here they say "jitomate" for tomato.
Anyway, today I am going to the anthological museum. I prefer art museums, but this place is kind of a big deal so I'll check it out. I'm going on a Saturday, which I am pretty sure is stupid, but I only have two more days here.
The housekeeper told me she would come by in a 1/2 hour 15 minutes ago so I need to get out of here for now.
